If you’ve ever wanted to dabble in the world of watercolour this is the workshop for you! This 2-hour workshop will teach you techniques and skills while you relax and unwind in our gorgeous studio on the Grand River.
Talented Kayla Whitney is a Hamilton based artist, illustrator and muralist and owner of Koe Design Studio.
This Led Botanical Watercolour workshop is for the beginner or newly established artist that is looking for a little guidance to push them out of their comfort zone. It is for the artist who has learned the basic skills and is ready for a new way to employ them. It is for the curious artist and the artist who is ready to tap into their intuition and unique strengths and bring a real level of passion and creativity into their artistic practice.... is that you?

In this workshop, we will work through a series of exercises that will facilitate a strong yet flexible relationship between eye, mind, and hand. We will practice observational techniques rooted in reality by first developing perceptional and technical skill and learning to use colour, light, and shadow to describe form. We will then create space to listen to our intuition and learn to trust it along with our own creative instincts and preferences. By trusting our intuition to bring vibrancy and creativity into what we see we will discover our individual and unique perceptions of the still life set up before us.
Once we complete the exercises we will spend the latter half of the class working from a simple still life towards a completed piece. We will work alongside one another through this process with guidance and instruction being provided throughout. We will employ the techniques used in the first half of the workshop to strike the perfect balance between work that is rooted in observational reality but is represented through each of our own unique creative voices.
Your workshop includes:
- an equipment and tools overview, a guided demonstration, free time to experiment and play as well as some light refreshments & snacks
- all supplies - paper, brushes, paints, etc and a final piece of art using the techniques you learned to take home
*Did we mention our studio is BYOB friendly?! Bring what you like, we supply the glasses!

All registrations are considered final sale. Make up classes can be arranged with the instructor and studio availability. We reserve the right to cancel classes that don’t meet our minimum enrollment requirements. In the event of a class cancellation, notice will be given by phone and/or email to students four days prior to start date. Students will be refunded fees in full in this case.
